Using Channels

  1. Find a channel with the highest contrasst and copy it. Name the new channel alpha.
  2. Image: Adjustements > Levels, make high contrast
  3. Use marquee & fill to make pure black and white areas
    • alt + backspace: fill foreground, cntrl + backspace: fill background
    • {: - brush size, }: + brush size
    • alt + click: pick colors
  4. Adjust levels again
  5. Select either black or white
    • cntrl + click: select
  6. create layer mask (shift+click: disable layer mask)
  7. create new adjustment layer
    • dbl + click: adjust levels again
    • alt + click affect grouped layers
    • it will only affect grouped layers
    • adjustment layers affect all beneath
  8. select teh layer mask > add guassian blur
    • shift + short key select next menu item
    • cntrl + j: copy + paste new layer
    • cntrl + shift + j: cut + paste new layer

Type

  • Create type over background
  • cntrl + click on layer (text)
  • make the text layer invisible
  • select foreground layer
  • add layer mask
  • add effects on mask layer

Light Effects

  • duplicate layer
  • add guassian blur
  • up levels and desaturate

Actions

  • actions pallete
  • create new action
  • name it
  • record it
  • perform actions
  • stop
  • reuse by hitting play

Batch Process

  • create new action
  • open image and adjust
  • save same name
  • close file
  • stop action
  • create new folder
  • File: Automate > Batch

Textures

  • create background
  • create texture layer
  • use mask to bring texture into logo
  • add layer effects
    • bevel
    • outer glow
    • satin
    • drop shadow
  • hue/saturation

Edges

  • select elipsis around outer edge
  • select inverse
  • feather
  • fill black
  • change opacity

Pixel Stretch

  • duplicate layer
  • marquee > single column marquee tool
    • cntrl + r: rulers
    • cntrl + h: hide marquee
  • select one pixel column
  • copy + paste into new layer
  • transform and stretch

Scan Lines

  • new canvas > transparent background either 2x4 or 4x4
  • select 1/2 horizontal pixels
  • fill black
  • select entire canvas, cntrl + a
  • edit > define pattern
  • name it > click ok
  • sleect working image file
  • create new layer
  • edit fill
  • select pattern
